The adventure begins in the highlands of Isabela Island. For about 45 minutes, we cross the western side of the huge caldera until we reach the point where a unique trek toward the astonishing Sulfur Mines starts.
From there, the hike leads us into the caldera along trails lined with volcanic formations and steep slopes. Every step reveals a landscape that seems to come from another planet.
On reaching the destination, several fumaroles release steam from inside the volcano while the intense yellow tones of the sulfur contrast with the dark volcanic rock.
With a hike of roughly 3 kilometers and a total duration of 5 to 6 hours, this experience is perfect for adventurous travelers who want to discover one of the most impressive geological secrets in Galápagos.
